Injector tools for a Volvo Penta MD5A

I want to take out the injector on my Volvo Penta Engine MD5A, I have never done this before but want to learn how to do it. I need some injector removal tools(I think). Can anyone recommend what tools to buy, or at least point me in the right direction.

No special tools are needed for removing the injector. If you disturb the copper sleeve it sits in, a special tool is needed to fit a new copper sleeve. If this is the case, it's probably cheaper to ask a Volvo mechanic to do it for you.

No special tools are needed for removing the injector. If you disturb the copper sleeve it sits in, a special tool is needed to fit a new copper sleeve. If this is the case, it's probably cheaper to ask a Volvo mechanic to do it for you.

If your injectors are tight then you can reduce the chance of loosening the sleeve by inserting a piece of flat steel bar on top of the sleeve under the injector boss and then jack against this . It will help keep the sleeve in place. There was a tool available that performed this function but that would be a project as not seen mention of one for quite a while.

Thanks VIc but I was referring to the tool which held the sleeve in place while removing a sticky injector

Check the water is drained before you start just in case the sleeve comes with the injector comes suite it

The exhaust elbow is worth checking whilst you are being busy

I don’t think this unit is Volvos own but just marketed by them when sail boats changed shape and they needed to get a unit to fit under the cockpit of flat bottomed boat it may have been built by SABB in Norway for them
