Inflating Majoni Fenders?

Hi,

Apologies here if this is a stupid question and obvious but I purchased four size 2 Majoni fenders last year all of which now need inflating.

I have purchased the Majoni threaded valve fitting/adapter as this appears to be needed to be screwed into the fender valve.

When trying to inflate it was impossible and the pump wouldn't operate? I couldn't pump it.

I know I'm missing something and wondered if you need to push the adapter into the valve once screwed in or inflate another way?

The fender valves do not look like they're sticking so I'm guessing it's definitely the operator and not the equipment!

Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks.

The valves are often quite stiff and need a bit of pressure to operate. I assume this makes them less likely to leak but it can necessitate a compressor.

Are these the ones that you can let air out of the valve using a match or cocktail stick?

I think salt may occasionally get in the valve and block it up - try pouring on some hot water.

You need a high pressure pump to overcome the spring in the valve before you can get the air in.

We had the exact same problem. Being short of time, I came up with a rather uncouth solution. I pulled out the valve using an M3 (I think) bolt, pumped up the fender (a little over full) with a bicycle pump and then (with a little practise!) quickly reinserted the valve! I always lost a little air during the final step, but the end result was as required. What the fenders are like now, I don't know, but a visit to the boat will thankfully be taking place soon. We put plenty of fenders out before leaving the boat for the winter!
