I have just been notified that the renewal cost of my insurance for the contiuance of my Med cruise in my Moody Carbineer, is almost doubled, I am with Saga and am am being asked to pay well over £700 this time as apposed to just under half that last time.
Can anyone advise me as to a company with a more reasonable view as regards cost as this hike is too much for a pensioner to afford.
I have 30 years safe sailing behind me but I know that if I dont insure I will have my first accident.

I would go back to Max and find out what the problem is - he is very helpful and the rates he quotes are good. I had 20 odd quotes from UK and French insurers before settling on him - (You are right he is tied to Navigators and General but they at least do 'specialise' in marine insurance and Max has authority to write his own insurance)

it appears that all marine insurance is based on a percentage of the value of the boat.... Then comes the area you are sailing in. The bigger the area the higher the percentage - I found with Pantaenius (who are now not competative for smaller boats) that it was better to insure for one small area then change the insurance for the next area.
May be you need to insure only for the trip to Gib - then change for just Western Med.....

Other than being insured by them I have no commercial interest in yachmaster insurance..

Try Porthcawl they have recently insured my boat from UK to the Med. My premium was 3 x yours but as has been mentioned by another member its dependent on insured value. One way to keep the premium down is to opt for a high deductible. Good luck its a bit of a mine field.

I certainly found the RYA recommended Bishop Skinner very good value, have you asked for a quote.
