I got that IRC rumour from another former competitor so worth checking in the current rules.

PS We got 2.25m draught into Barmouth no problem. Getting out into a F7 with two lifeboats escorting the fleet out to the start was interesting.

2 Trophies, Line honours and IRC corrected (for the sailing bits only obviously!).

Pip won the line honours trophy last year with an all girl crew in the same J120 she's sailing now. Slipped to second on IRC.

Having now read the rules rather than just chatting to others, it's clear there is scope for doing it on a smaller boat. The legs are of course very long for an Impala but then nobody does this race because they want an easy time of it.

Lots of First Class 8s have done it and Hunter Deltas, etc.

With an Impala you need to pray for lighter airs and really sort out your rowing arrangement.

I have done the TPYR 5 times in my Westerly Corsair with all the comforts of a 36 ft cruiser, we came 4 once but I think that year there were not many entries. My runners had the whole of saloon with lee boards in very comfortable. I found the whole thing too stressful so many tidal gates. I don't recall there being any consession being made for being stuck outside Whitehaven if you had to wait outside that was hard luck, I think your time was registered when your runner reported for scrutiny before going off on their bikes, incidentally we carried our bikes on top of the dingy on Davits. I also remember that we rowed over the start line a few times, we could not get the log to read more than 0 when rowing so perhaps it was more the tide going out that got us over the line.
