I've searched on here for recommendations for places to eat but can only find reference to the pub, is that the one opposite or over the water.

Only here for the night where can you get a good steak meal?

Thanks

The Old Ship - out of marina turn right a few hundred yards on the right
The Spinnaker - out of marina turn left cross the road
Jolly Sailor - out of marina turn left under railway bridge turn left follow signs

all will do steaks

If you have a decent tender (15knot +)the tides are perfect for the Horse and Jocky, head up stream, turn right but check it out on google so you dont get lost ;).

HW 2130 ish

We had a reasonable pub grub meal at the ship a few weeks ago - SWMBO liked it and enjoyed the beer

Walking distance makes it a good bet compared to the Jolly Sailor etc. Ferry is ok although its moved into the Elephant yard now so view not so nice as before - steak I had was good.

ShiP inn good, just outside the gate and turn right, wouldn't do the spinnaker, jolly sailor opposite Marina does a good meal, not cheap but nice steaks and good location, 10 min walk if you don't have tender

I think you should try the Jolly Sailor as it's one of those iconic pubs in the Solent. The tide is fine to pop over there in your tender and we've had good meals there. Some sharing plate options for starters. Fish and chips is always good, a choice of drinks.

15 kts+ up the Hamble,

Pete are you mad?

or is it that you've got too much money?:D

certainly not got too much money , its that last bit through the tree branches and reeds where you need to bank round the corners, 3.3 Mariner just doesnt do it for me ;)

I used to live in the tiny cottages behind the Old Ship and loved it as a locals pub. It was great for simple pub grub and a few beers with the staff and locals.
Bit spit and sawdust, even the posh side.

I moved to Poole in 2005 and believe that the real public bar bit "accidentally" burned down. Haven't been ssince so wouldn't know what it was like these days. but expect it wouldn't be great if you are looking for high quality grub. For that I'd be tempted to head down the river to Hamble.
