Good afternoon:

The marina I use is rumored to start charging for electricity on 1 Jan 2014 at what I consider "rip off" rates - 3 and 5 times the cost to a local householder - nice little earner in my opinion.

Having little faith in their meters to record the correct amount of electricity that used I want to install a meter between the post and my yacht however have not had much luck finding such a meter that could be wired into the cable.

Over the years I have heard many stories of clients adding x amount to the system only to have the power turn itself off indicating that more has to be added and, of course, complaints are met with demands to prove that x amount of electricity has not been used. I doubt very much that any evidence provided by an inline meter would result in much positive action by the management at least I would like to know how many kilowatts I had actually used.

Has anyone used such a meter and could suggest a brand and where it could be purchased.

Cheers

There are large numbers of domestic meters on Ebay, some of which might be adapted -or mounted in a waterproof box (with the appropriate sockets in & out). Technically it isn't difficult. What is difficult is to establish your reading is better than theirs.....

I was about to point out that the law limits what can be charged by a business reselling electricity - but then I saw you are in Turkey so all bets are off. Hopefully this post will forestall the half dozen others thinking the same thing :)
