My crew has just bought a copy of what is still labelled "PBO" but has a masthead saying just "Boat Owner". Have they dropped the "Practical" and, if so, will they be bidding for "www.bo.co.uk" which is currently up for sale?

Or have I simply missed a change which has been discussed months ago?

I've wondered for long time what happened Practical anyway ...

Years ago - there were real practical DIY ideas given here and also in the magazine. I even used to buy the annual book that collected together all the hints and tips. All gone now ...

I was accused of being rude when I commented that boat ownership had become Cheque Book related ...

Not me but the guy employed by the company who cleans my boat once a week

Yes that correct I do pay someone to clean my boat. They also check my lines and fenders.

I live over 800 Km from my boat and Richards Bay is a big ship coal loader so if I left my boat any length of time it would be black not white and would be very difficult to clean the engrained coal dust.

All other maintenance I do myself because I want it done properly.

I know Richards Bay well .... we used to pick up about 110,000 tonnes coal for Japan .... then run empty down to Hay Point Australia for a load to take up to either Tarranto Italy or to Hunterston Scotland .....

So you would understand how dirty my boat will get when your ship was loaded.

BTW those bulk ship loaders and conveyor systems are what I was involved in designing many years ago in the UK

Owning a recreational sailboat has never been practical....

That depends. I used to pay a load out for marina berth and use boat about 2 - 3 weeks a year when I returned to UK. I spent a fortune in repairs / getting gear back working etc. as a consequence.

I spent roughly the same money getting the boat to Latvia and to river at back of my house .... so now my annual boat costs are less than the diesel bill I have on it ... (its a motor sailer so my annual diesel ? About 100ltrs)

But I admit I have boat at bottom of garden ... mooring is free ....walk 16april2019 evening (1).jpg

It almost looks like a mistake, as if the word has been omitted accidentally. No mention of it inside the mag and the PBO logo is everywhere. But recent content suggests otherwise with a lot more coverage of mobos. So maybe an attempt to broaden readership?

That was what I thought. A missing "Practical" on the cover could just be a mistake, but the word (if not its initial) seems to have been excised everywhere. Maybe a marketing test before making an official change?

The new version has a piece about woodworking tools... but the cover yacht appears to be constructed from frozen snot!

You've been aground far too long in that sin city of Ramsgit. Clubbing and drinking - what larks but will the xmas period produce calm fair weather to get moving again round the corner ? :)
