Importing a used boat to the UK from Switzerland

Smaller builders like Rhea would sell direct.
Larger outfits like Beneteau, Axopar, etc.... are manipulating prices by market purchase parity, and will keep doing so until fined by the EU competition authority.

Take a polish-built Jagram pergolas by way of example. A Leto Pergola is offered by UK retailers, who do not hold any stock whatsoever, for £1,500 (non-negotiable). Delivery is 6-8 weeks straight from the Polish factory to your house.
Now you can order directly from Poland yourself for £475 RRP equivalent in zloty (from any garden centre selling online) and pay around £150 extra in shipping and get it at about the same time.

Plus VAT, as over £135 is collected on arrival by the couriers.

I am not a trader, but yes those margins are very rich.
Oh no need to Be A "Trader". Just buy one or two for your own use. Nothing to stop you flogging them on if you change your mind. In fact how many could you cram into a small van? Save yourself the shipping costs and have a short holiday at the same time!

The trick here is to do pass-through ecommerce selling from your bedroom without even going to Poland. This is where the arbitrage is.

In fact you're in a brilliant position because you're buying a boat over there- just store the pergola timbers in the boat! No extra transport costs. And all those curved bits of wood will look just like spare boat timbers to the customs people (assuming you deal with them rather than sail across under the radar).
Nice little earner!

Lol I think Southwales is a troll guys, or just plain daft......

His first post is about setting up a boat dealership, but only have 5% margins cos all the dealers are making too much money - although oddly he seems to know nothing about boats.

Now he is trying to save the VAT because if he puts the 10m / 5000kg boat on a trailer behind a car that can legally tow about 2000kg he can probably just drop it in the water and row it round to Wales - presumably VAT isn't charged on manpowered craft!!

Is it me, or is he just being inflammatory?

Could be wrong mind, perhaps he'll make a fortune.....

welcome to the forum @Badvisor - as you can see in the previous comment, there are plenty of little Einsteins larking around here - be careful not to "outsmart" them :) Their ego can not handle it.

Thanks but I'm not worried about them. Little people who get all worked up over red tape, like towing weights. I bet they're all goody-two-shoes going through customs as well!

Winners aren't constrained by petty rules!
