Importing a boat from America

Re: Resale value

The resale value of an imported boat will be lower simply because it is an unknown quantity. I would not give the same money for an import as for a boat sold into the UK market. You cannot check the history and there may be many minor differences in specification that you do not know about when you buy and you only find out about after you own the boat and which make getting spares and servicing more difficult

Re: Resale value

Well, actually I'm not thinking so differently.
Oh, and btw, I also agree on your previous comments on the IT market.
But I assumed that we were talking about similar models/brands, from well known builders.
I'm not considering exotic boats, maybe common in the US but never seen around here. That would surely be a recipe for reselling troubles/big losses.
Your understandable concerns are much less relevant when comparing frinstance a US Ferretti model with its EU equivalent.
Even less, if comparing a US Hatteras with a EU one (most parts would come from the US anyway).
But my main point was that in economic terms, even assuming a higher % of depreciation for a US model, probably you'll loose less money in absolute terms upon resale, considering the lower initial investment.

what's the relationship between floridaboats and boatquays? logo looks the same.
I have imported a boat and can answer these questions, but am really curious as to the real intent as to why you're asking. So be honest.......

This is an old post, I think from 2005. Ant is the MD of Boatquays, formally Florida Boats - the name changed in early 2007 I think. Not recent, though at the time the post was for commercial purposes and the company was just getting started.
