Me - well, the West Coast of Scotland is pretty much home waters, so I would go further afield - Vancouver Sound, or the Bay of Islands - not sure which.

I always fancied a couple of weeks lazing around somewhere in the Caribbean, and now SWMBO (a competition fiend) has won March's YM comp for a two week charter holiday - so we're off to the BVI for two weeks in November courtesy of The Moorings . . .

So I guess wishing for a month would just be greedy.

Not trying to grovel at all Tim, but I would choose your West coast of Scotland. While not a fan of organised rallies, etc I always enjoy the photos in magazine coverage of the classic malts cruise scenery, for example.

Let's demonstrate some imagination folks...

The Cape Verde Islands. The charter yacht would have to be based away from the capital with its corrupt officials and hordes of street hustlers.

Alternatively there are a couple of French islands sitting between Africa and Madagascar. These should provide a civilized jump off point for a month of real frontier voyaging. Tristan Jones wrote some positive comments about sailing in this part of the world.

Desolation Sound north of Vancouver looked interesting from my shore side drive, apparently a hunting gun to scare off inquisitive bears during shoreside trips is a useful addition to the yacht’s inventory. Then I would drop down south of Vancouver to provide an antidote to the desolation and sample American sailing culture in the San Juan's. The islands offshore from Seattle have a hint of the Baltic which is why they were settled by Scandinavians.

Finally how about a sail/camp safari using a flotilla of small Wharram catamarans on Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe?

The Kariba experience is certainly worth a try !
We used to have an annual race across it - camp overnight and then back. Got an adiabatic gale off the plateau at 6.00 each morning, which made for a hairy start line in a Fireball.
The game viewing from a boat was incomperable. The charter fleet was still operatiing some months ago and the Owner is a real old hand at the game.
Problems now that inflation is exceeding post-war German standards and I now wonder why we fought so hard for so long, just to be sold down the river to Mugabe by the Yanks and Brits ....blay . blah . blah ....when we....whenwe.... whenwe...Yes I suppose I am becoming a sad old git.
Must get back to finishing the boat.
