I wondered why, and looked at the thread,

but gave up after a few posts.
That's the sort of thread where I never find anything new/unheard.
On the other hand, I could learn quite some new (to me) things on wooden boats, thanks to other posts of yours.
Therefore I'm not happy to read that you won't be around anymore.
On the other hand, you were probably just contributing to the forum lately, without anyhing (or very little) in return.
To me, that's an understandable reason to give up.
A rant in a thread, well, that's a reason I don't frankly understand.
Sounds like not taking a certain bus anymore, because in one trip you didn't like the other passengers...

Since Mirelle has posted that he won't be wasting time on ybw.com again, why are there so many posts encouraging him to stay. He has already said he won't be back so he obviously(?) will not read them.

A better approach to those that know his email address should email him and encourage him to stay that way.

I have found on this, and another forum that closed, that there are always those that wish to take up the gauntlet (whether it has been thrown down or not) and post to antagonise or try and convert others to their way of thinking. It is better to completely ignore them.

It appears to me that Mirelle piched up the troll/gauntlet posted by Rimco and the posts snoballed into a pitched battle.

It is unfortunate that Mirelle has decided not to visit/post here anymore. His advice (from those that I have read) will be missed.

There are enough forums and idiots for to post on them instead of encouraging them here.

Better we all get back to posting boaty topics. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I've just logged in for the first time since Friday and am deeply saddened by what I've read. You have been a help to me and other wooden boat owners both directly and indirectly over the years. Thanks and good sailing.

I've followed the "racist" thread and this one.
Mirelle was quite out of order and far more obnoxious in the lounge than most lounge posters. Now you decry the very existence of the lounge.
If you don't frequent it and have no desire to re-visit it, why do you want it removed?
What is that all about?
Do you wish to control areas that you have no interest in?
Where would forumites, like me, who visit and contribute to most forums, go to post their irreverant thoughts and non-boaty meanderings? I'm sure you wouldn't want them on here.

Although I've never met Mirelle, I know that he has an Asian wife and they have two sons together. If a post such as yours had appeared in the original thread, I believe that his response would have been entirely justified

Perhaps this is what he meant by lifting a stone and seeing the slimy creatures which lurk below it

I would think that most users of this forum do care... very much so. This forum will me much worse off without Mirelle and those that have left with him.
