Fastnet on a 101-yr-old gaff yawl
When I was 14, I left school to become autonomously home educated. I joined a local home ed group and we raised funding to go on a residential sail training voyage with The Cirdan Sailing Trust. I was 16 at the time and was so inspired by the trip, that I was ecstatic to be invited back to volunteer with Cirdan.
7 years later, I am still volunteering with Cirdan - most recently aboard their 101-year-old gaff yawl 'Duet', acting as group leader to a bunch of 12-16 year olds on a week-long voyage around the East Coat/Thames Estuary. That was hard work!
Through my volunteering with Cirdan, I am grateful to have been sponsored by Trinity House and ASTO and am now qualified up to RYA Yachtmaster Coastal and Ocean theory. As many of you will know, I have also been inspired to buy my own sailing boat, which I have lived on for almost five years.
Now, Cirdan have given me the awesome opportunity to sail as part of the crew onboard 'Duet' in this year's Fastnet race. Our aim is to raise as much money as we can for Cirdan, to support other worthy young people on voyages with them. We took part in the Morgan Cup race last weekend as one of our qualifiers for the Fastnet, and are looking forward to the race in just over a month's time.
You can support our fundraising here - even the smallest contributions are much appreciated: http://www.justgiving.com/duetfastnet

And watch this space - I'm hoping to secure a feature in a top magazine all about our race campaign!
We are also still looking for crew, so if anyone is suitably experienced and interested, then let me know.
