Illegal mooring in Richmond Upon Thames- new bylaw.

Be careful Actionmat....take your tablets before watching....:)

Thanks for the warning!:D

What I really needed was a handful of anti cringe pills, because I found that really hard to watch. Candidates for the Golgafrincham B Ark.

It would have made better viewing if Councillor Fleming was actually there, rather than a mile away at Twickenham riverside.

Anyone got a pic of these evil boats?

This piece seemed designed to gather sympathy for the boaters, and made no mention, for example, of what they do with their waste water, or of the accumulation of junk along the riverbank

Chamberlains bit of paper......:D
Hardly an appropriate comparison. Chamberlains bit of paper concerned whole populations with an interest in what it promised - and subsequently failed to deliver.
The fact is that a few 'undesirable' boaters on the Thames are of little interest or concern to the population at large, including many river users.

Many river users?
When told of the facts the many river users and the public are usually hmmm that's not really fair is it,not the BBC's ooh look its Rosie and Jim doesn't it look fun attitude.
No mention of the kids that use that part of the river for water activities such as canoeing/sailing
The knowledgeable and informed ones I know are pissed off with the whole scenario.

I'd like to know who the disinterested river users are, because I've yet too meet any and the public were interested enough to push the council into action, thanks to the co ordinated efforts of local residents groups. With regard to sewage, the EA have done a poor job of protecting the environment and for that they should be held to account.

As with everything legal - you need proper reliable evidence that will stand up in court.
EA have to be on hand when the effluent is chucked overboard.
Even if they did night time patrols - for which there's no funding - you've got to catch the offender 'at it'.

They had 8 years to set up a camera or two. 1 average human produces around 1500lbs of waste per year, times 40 boats and over 100 people, that's a lot of offences. And a lot of lost revenue for the pump out at Moseley.

A practical problem or two
You need to fund purchase of camera.
You need permission and somewhere to mount camera
You need to install the thing and get it powered.
Somebody is going to have to either collect data and view it......it will all cost money
The mere presence of the device will ensure that no dumping of waste will take place within its view.
If you mount the camera any distance away any IR image will be so poor as to be useless in court.
Cost would be in the region of several thousands of pounds....money better spent of a new lock gate or two ?
