Have one engine 2 alternators . Only one ignition light but two field supplies with switches on each fed from common ignition supply incorporating light .So if one alternator fails light goes on. But which alternator? Playing with switches won't find it as one alternator already self exiting. Also fault may not be in field circuit perhaps fan belt. Thinking about fitting 2 lights seems logical but one diesel engine 2 ignition lights is that common.? Also more interested in early warning on failed
Fanbelt driving raw water pump . Any comments..?

How about ammeter or volt meter in the output circuit from each alternator? That'd give you the info you need about which one is working or not, plus an indication of how well it is working. Also avoids complications you outline above.

Already got that via shunts and digital monitor but its an alarm that I want

Looks good but ataround £80 seems expensive compared to bulb , resistor relay and buzzer plus some soldering query was principle of having 2 lights on one engine

If it was mine I'd fit individual warning lights.
