It's my turn to organise our annual camping trip for old school/uni mates and their families, and i'm looking for ideas for a daytime activity. There will be 30-35 people, roughly half adults, half kids, and the date is Sat 13th July. We'll camp in the New Forest somewhere, and my idea was to spend the morning sailing over to the Isle of Wight, walk to a pub for lunch, then sail back again.

The problem is I need to keep the budget for the activity to about £100 per family of four, which will rule out chartering several yachts with skippers for the day. We do have use of a motor boat that would take about 10 people, so we could get away with sailing capacity for 24. Does anyone operate something like the catamaran trips you find in holiday destinations that would take this many people.

Alternatively, we could camp just outside Beaulieu and I thought about dinghy sailing down the river and back, but can't seem to find anyone that offers such trips. Anyone know of a company that might bring 10 or so suitable dinghys over for the day. We probably have enough people in the group with dinghy sailing experience to get one in each boat.

Any other ideas?

As a leftfield option, if there are any charter yacht operators on here, would anyone consider a swapping arrangement, whereby you provide some form of suitable yachting experience for the day, and in return I can offer a weekend on a 60' motor yacht based in Antibes in the South of France at the end of June or start of September. It's fully coded, and a skipper could be arranged.

There's a company that runs school trips over to the IOW which I think is island based that has large motor launches ,one of which is 'Jennie M' based at or near East Cowes marina. The normal pickup I've seen is from Warsash Harbourmaster's jetty where they arrive in a coach with their teachers, and take to the island and back the same day.
Perhaps this may be an option for you with a pickup from the Calshot Activity Centre jetty. Whilst this is not sailing at least all of the group could be together on boat(s).

Maybe one of the Island forum members has the name of the company that you can contact if this is another option.
Maybe also a chance for something different at the Activity Centre itself too.

There was a big Catamaran operating from Poole Quay marina the other week and it sailed. Could maybe be persuaded to operate from Lymington.

We did a canoe trip from bucklers hard up and down the river once. There was a company there that ran events, will need to look to see if i can find it but they were pretty good, prehaps not what your after tho.

Thanks to all for the ideas. Zippy, the canoe trip is the backup option, but it seems a shame to bring everyone to the Solent and not arrange some form of sailing.
