Ideal size tender for Prestige 36?

P36 Tender

We had a zodiac airdeck 310 on our P32 and it was way too big (owned it before the p32). We now have a Princess 42 and have a Walker bay 270 with a Yam 8 which is a fantastic tender, but is even a little big for the 42. It will depend on how you plan to store it. If you are going to inflate/deflate every time you use it, then a larger tender is ok. If you are going to store it inflated on the swim platform, then I would say a 2.5 is about as large as I would go IMHO. Best to check with other people's tenders and try them out on the platform to see how much different sizes might restrict access. You also have to decide if you will store with the engine on or off which increases the space problem. good luck. tom

HI jono, the best is IMHO an Avon, wether it be a rib or blow up job with slatted floor.

If the boat has a passarele or crane then its no problem, have what you want as long as its not too heavy for the crane, most are about 250kg lift capacity.

I also have a nice yamaha 8hp 2 stroke if you want it, maybe I can sort you a rib out too.

Thank you all . I will look at the Avon and Quicksilver. Just thought having a 2.6metres tender on telescopic davits, we would have trouble getting through the gate, but I hope to be getting Volvopaul over soon to service engines and looks like he may be bringing a tender and engine with him.
Many thanks all

Did I read that right? We have a Walker Bay 270 and it says max 3HP. I also wondered how yours sits in the water with a 8HP on the back? Bet she flies though.

Walker Bay Genesis 270 is rated at 8-10hp, and is a brilliant little rib. If I could fit one in the garage of the T40 I'd have one tomorrow. Too wide, unfortunately.

p36 tender

Jimmy has it right. It will take up to 10hp...probably 15 if you're daring! The 3 you are referring to is the person capacity which is also ridiculous. I have seen 4 adults and 2 children with all the kids equipment and it doesn't even look stressed. It's a great dinghy, but as Jimmy said it is wide. And you're right it will plane with two adults with the 8 Yam 2 stroke.

I use a Quicksilver 270 on my Sealine F37. Fits fine and access through the transom door is fine too. P36 is a similar size so maybe worth trying this size as well.

I think you're probably talking about different walker bays. Isn't there a rib come sailing dinghy, which may well have 3 hp limit?
You're right, thanks for clearing it up. I've got the dinghy and the Genesis RIB is an entirely different beast.

hi jonoR
we had this on our 36 now on 46 works fine

Best dinghy on P36

Well this type of question really opens up a bag of worms as there will always be various opinions...

It's a bit like asking, "What's the best boat?"

Firstly, you have to ask yourself what you are going to use it for and how you want to store it.

If you want to go hairing about as a fun toy and also get to the beach or do a bit of ditch crawling then you'll need space, freeboard and a good sized outboard. Jusy getting two people ashore gently through the moorings, a 250 with a 2-3 Hp will do.

Storing a 3 metre rib with a 15Hp on a 37 footer with a crane is extreme and will interfere with the main boats trim and economy imho. Sorry Wiggo, but your dinghy is massive. Still it goes to show that you can put larger dinghies on 36-37ft boats but in this case the boat is mostly for playing and not transporting crew ashore.

The P36 will take the telescopic Bezenzoni davits (max.60Kgs smaller ones) which look good and fold away to nothing, but they are fiddly to store a dinghy on and tricky if you want to leave the engine mounted. Generally speaking, if you are going to fit and remove the engine each time you launch then snap-davits and a 5-6Hp is the max you will be able to handle safely. imho.

The Walker Bay270 Genesis Rib is my favourite too as the handling and load capacity is astounding. It will happily take 15Hp and is a great boat and probly the max you could consider, I believe. It will fit in a T40 garage but it requires complete deflation to close the hatch. The other W'Bay is the 'RID270' it's a sailing dinghy with an infalatble tube around the gunwhale.

The P36 does have a well extended swim platform compared to many boats of this size and therefore you could consider storing on chox or a slide davit but the boat would struggle with the weight of a rib and crane/ passerale.

Also consider whether you want to leave the boat ashore in a tidal area, dragging heavy ribs up the beach can be hard work, whereas a 270 Quicksilver or Avon air deck is easy and both will take 10Hp so good and fun. As hlb says, you need nothing larger really.

Personally, I would not consider a slatted wooden floor, they are heavier and handle badly! By that I mean they go sideways and are slow to plane. Also, I would avoid centre console, these take up valuable space on small dinghies and although look cool, they will end up annoying you.

Well there you go, some more food for thought. This is exactly the type of topic that is best discussed at forum pub meets as everyone has a point of view worth considering.

Good luck and keep us posted.
