I am trying to link my ICOM-M505 DSC Radio to my Furuno GPS (GP-36 model) to show the position and time on the radio screen. I believe I have the right connectiuons Red + GND wire on the Icom and White + Blue (as GND) on the GPS. In the IO settings I have selected NMEA-REM1 as the Data 1: and NMEA VER: as Ver2.0. I think I have the right wires and the right settings but still no joy .... can anyone assist ... regards Neil

Try 1.83 and make sure Baud 4800

You may need to configure the setup menu in your GPS to output NMEA 0183 on one of its COM ports (ie specfic pair of coloured wires on power data cable), AND possibly configure the ICOM setup menu to match the same, AND connect the NMEA "out" from the GPS to the NMEA "in" of the VHF (red on M505).

A common mistake is to connect to the NMEA OUT of the VHF instead of the IN.

Thanks for your reply however I'm not too sure what it means ?? whee do I input 1.83 and where do I find Baud settings .... thanks again

First of all it appears the Icom 505 will accept various versions of nmea but no harm in spouting the various from the Furuno. I am a bit puzzled that in
the Icom manual there is a reference to having to push CHANNEL+ENTER for 1 second to display Position and Time info. (Page22) Seems it might not just
display continuously.

In the Furuno you seem to have the right wires for Data 1 port However the manual for the Furuno 36 seems to miss out certain aspects of setting this port.

If you go to port setting on the Furuno and highlight the line starting Data 1 does it show a list to select from. Other models do with a choice of such things
as Radar, Autopilot etc. This causes different sentences to be sent. Also if you highlight the NMEA line does it give a choice. if so try an earlier version.(1.83)

The GP 36 manual seems not to have as much details on these points or maybe there is NO choice??????????
