icom m505 dsc vhf

I have one icom 505 in the cabin and second station by the helm, only problem I encountered was feeding the loudhailer through the external speaker I just got feedback instead of voice, but maybe I did not do it right!!! only tried once and died of embarrasment

have you bought a dedicated hailer, if so which one, as i have been looking through the internet and have only found the raymarine one at the moment...

i presume the speaker part of the 2nd station can be heard from the commandmic, or am i wrong and you need a external speaker as well, can you enlighten me on this part, as it seems very vague in the book when it comes to the 2nd station..

i am interested in the set for the operation of the 2nd station/dsc operation...
and the added bonus of the automatic foghorn, saves on worrying about the timing ...(not that i enjoy sailing in fog)

not dedicated just a marine external speaker, but the feed back must be caused by the handheld mic picking up the speaker sound which is above and behind the helm. I cant see how one could ever avoid the feedback ,but its only a detail the radio has done everything else Ive asked of it.

sorry I only answered half the question the command mike is also built in speaker, the foghorn bit has to come throught the external speaker I think but ive never tried to activate this. The command mike also has a covered DSc button.

when i started to enquire about this product i couldn't find how the dsc worked from the commandmic, but have recently seen a pdf leaflet which shows the back of the handset, and the covered dsc button, looks like they have done some decent r and d on this item, and it seems to cover most of the procedures you would use if you were busy in the cockpit and needed to use the vhf...

I am quite impressed with the info i have found so far, the price seems decent as well as it is a quality item, went to chandlery and inspected one today..

looks like the xmas list has just started...

tks for your feedback, much appreciated...
