ICC By Assessment?

The Greek government (and any other) can accept or not anything they want.
That’s my point - by not having signed up to accept it they can decide on a whim that the ICC is not acceptable, or that even ICC’s issued by a particular body are not accepted.

They do not need to sign up to anything to accept it. Same with any other qualification which many other states will accept. The list produced by Croatia for example has a huge number of qualifications listed off which the ICC is one.
I know - I posted the link before - it supports the “are you sure you need an ICC (or a new ICC)” question. Now obviously this is very much a Greek government problem - but you’d think someone would have managed to get some sort of written statement from a Greek official that says what the requirements are for foreign flagged vessels being sailed by their owners in their waters?

I was never asked by anyone to show my ICC in the 10 years I had a boat there, but had I been and asked for a translation in Greek I would have pointed to the Greek translation on the back cover.
That translation is seemingly not sufficient - it only says the sentence which is in English at the top of the back page. Resolution 40 requires the translations on the front cover, but of course not in Greek since they haven’t signed up to it!

it looks like any ambiguity on the need or otherwise for an ICC may be reduced in future in Europe - this is just a study report, but the direction of travel seems to be certainly for ICC to be recognised EU wide, but also suggesting keen to make mandatory - EBI welcomes new EU study calling for mutual recognition of boating licences for recreational boat operators
Interesting - seems that someone eventually managed to pull together the review Tranona's student was proposing. I only had a skim, but it looks like the Germans are particularly struggling with Greece!
