Collapses under suction or if not very gradually curved, always difficult to remove after it has been securely clipped and UV degrades - though little worse than spiral re-inforced.

Not much suction on the cockpit drains ( or the sink drain).

Agree about collapsing if badly curved. One of my cockpit drain outlet fittings is badly positioned and has resulted in a slight deformation of the hose... not so bad as to be considered collapsed though.

Plastic hose is always difficult to get off fittings IMO. At least this braided hose is easier to cut than the spiral reinforced stuff!

Not much UV light gets to the cockpit drains, even less to the sink drain, so not going to worry on that score.

The braided hose was much cheaper to use than spiral reinforced hose... I would have had the buy the latter ;)

Just one other comment. Not too long ago I had to extract the contents of the holding tank. Searching around on board which pipe to temporarily remove and use for the job I first tried a braded hose. Dead loss due to pipe collapsing under suction. In other words just because you're using a hose for one job it may be useful for another.

What is the objection to this type of stuff

I don't know what the actual objection is but my surveyor said :
Pipework -
Port drain - Clear braid reinforced plastic.
The use of this material beneath the waterline is not best practice.
Replacement in heavy duty spirally reinforced hose is recommended.
Another job for this winter...

Depends if it runs through the engine compartment . If so it has to be fire retardant .

Heat resistant!!!

If the cockpit drain passes through the engine compartment you may find that the ship will sink if you have an engine overheat or fire ( coz weedy hose like that will melt with a hard stare)

You can get hose rated for this very porpoise. I got some from a wholesale supplier in Crumpsall, Manchester. I phoned them after looking at the website & seeing that they had the stuff I needed. They asked why Ihad called, as they where wholesale only. I said I was local.. they said pop round & we'll sort you out. One of those happy days when you get what you want from people who know what the heck they are talking about for a price that is fair to both parties.

Sorry - can;t remember the name!

Cheers
