Not only a Med problem. I was just in Holland in “ my own” marina. During a visit I asked my old colleges how often the pump out was used.
They told me the pump is out of order most of the time. 700 + berth three star marina.
No problem because the use was almost zero.
And that in a marina who´s former director introduced and pushed the pump out law in Holland.
( That is how I had our black water tank for free )

I can understand that in holland because nearly every one goes from Marina to Marina each day , holland is well set up for that and mooring are cheap , very few anchor . Even on a lot of town wall you find toilets. My partner sister and husband have had boats in holland for donk years and they once told me the only time they use the loo is to wee in .

Correct . The sanitary blocks in that marina are awesome.
I can assure you the whole place is so clean, you wont find a cigarette but or snippet of paper in the whole village.
Just a detail : when I was working there a government test showed leonella in the showers and in the water hoses on the pontoons. Nobody got sick, but we changed the temperature of the hot water boilers and changed all water hoses.
I see now that they advertise with “ legionella prevention “
Just that you know when taking water in a Greek town.
