I Think I\'m Going For The Five Quid A Gallon! Stuff The Pics.
I got realy dispondent about boats this winter, even thought of giving it all up. It even lasted till we got down to Plymouth and I started washing the winter slime off. Back aching I looked for some light relief and noticed the guy with the Trader down the pontoon, taking his fly bridge cover off. I ambled up to him, thankfull to get away from the washing.
You going out then, I asked.
Cant see a point in taking a boat out, he said. I can drive to Falmouth or where ever in an hour or so!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Soon as we got to the boat and switched things on. Flash, flash and tripped the pontoon out. Hmm, must be us, the powers been fine for the last three months since I saw the boat last. Try without hot water, well that looked better for six hours, then, flash bang, power off. Try the fridge. Then try this and that. Finally, marina man desideds to plug in all other boats on another fuse, leaving us to suffer on our own. Next boats cable was cut halfway through. He'd caused the problems all the time.!
So Off to Polpero, buoys far to close together to fit MF in, so anchors just outside. Mind the rock!! Nice couple of pints then down to Fowey. Whats all this flat sea stuff about, it's nearly boring. So it's up to whatsit pontoon where Captain Shed hangs out. He seems to have drip dried well since we last saw him after throwing himself off my boat in Megavissy last year. Mind, he does look to have shrunk a little.
Off to Falmouth and it's actually sunshining and very smooth. Chain locker as inviting as ever. Then to the fuel barge for juice. Oi, whats this cream coloured stuff yer giving me, I says. He says, I aint put any red dye in for about a year, every ones going to have white whether commercial or pleasure.
Well if he's right, all the fishy men and commercial folks will be filling there cars and mates cars with white, at red prices.
Well it's a hell of a big barge, not a little operation. So either he knows something no one else does. ??
But it's def cream diesel.
Back to Plymouth to disatch Deb for an appointment for Debs to London, cancelled emmediatly she'd booked trains and hotel. So off to Dartmouth, then Tiegnmouth. (What a lovely place, easy to enter on a half desent day even at low tide) Harbour master will beat you down on price till it's a joy to take him his money. Visited Salcolmbe, it's a bit of a love hate relationship with the place these days. Nice place, spoiled by entheusiastic prices and lack of facilaties. Oh, forgot about Brixham HM pontoon. Free this time round, now doubt he will remember me next time. But free lecy, he, he. Oh forgot about Helford, that was free to.
So two weeks, perfect weather. Then felt a bit of a twat after hearing Brixham coast guards trying to contact a boat in thick fog off Salcolmbe. Butted in to say we would help, with MF's giant open aray wizzy round thingy, which promptly went dead, leaving us fairly helpless as well. Mind it seems to work again perfect, with no fog!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
