can anyone reccomend an i pod / mp3 player fm transmitter that will send a signal strong enough to be picked up by the radio antenna on top of the mast (sun odyssey 35). lots of brands promise strong signals but which work?
thanks in advance nobby

I have a Gear4, RDS with "follow-me" from HMV (29.99).

It is fantastic, as you drive about, it automatically re-tunes if you enter an area with a signal on your frequncy. It also displays the track on the radio display.

Works well on the boat too, and we have a 16m mast with the vhf aerial acting as fm aerial via a splitter.

It has different "docks" in the box to fitt all different Ipods.
I use it with a 3G nano

Thanks phatcat, that sounds like what I'm after, I take it that's a charger as well? Is the sound quality up to scratch?

Mines not Ipod ... but uses SD / MMC, Flash card or USB cable from PC ... 25 quid with IR remote hand controller.

I was amazed on its range. It plugs straight into a ciggy socket and I can have it in the car at front of house ... I can switch on a radio at back of house and there it is. I've even forgotten about it and driven of from house ... swmbo reckons it's lost signal whan I've got about 100m away from house.
When we have BBQ's down by the boat / channel in back garden. I put it into boats ciggy socket inside cabin and then a radio at the bbq - distance easily 50m ... no problem. Amazing tools.

Mine takes up to 2Gb input if cards - but of course unlimited if PC via cable.

Sorry to go on about a non iPod machine - but is it absolutely necessary to be iPod's - can you not use a normal one like mine and connect to the iPod ?

I was always anti iPod but was talked into iPhone, 16gb, loads of toys and I'm writing this on it, and after a few weeks of learning I've not looked back

We tried the iTrip, but it was so awful, I took it back. For starters it was not really powerful enough to be received by the radio, even if it was right next to it, and second, because of 'EU rules' everytime it started up, it changed frequency, so you had to hunt for it.

It did look nice.

Why go wireless – I prefer hardwire; have a look here

You obviously have a radio on board. Have you considered this cassette adapter . You get CD quality. I have one in the car for non-iPod MP3 player.

I really like that I can drop it into ciggy socket on board ... take a standard radio ashore and have MY music within reasonable distance of the boat.

Amps can be problem with a yacht a car style cd radio consumes quite a few of them, the FM thingy a fraction of this so under sail I use one plugged into a 12v socket with a memory stick; a solar powered radio on deck provides the noise, it works well - in daylight.

Agreed but on berth at home with power plugged in .... I have two girt big speakers I connect to second speaker set outlet on the car radio ... they sit on deck and provide music for the partys !
