I would suggest a dedicated usb socket as opposed to a lighter adapt or but ideally charge from shore power using your apple plug surely?

The main usage of NavigationSystem is at sea so shorepower is not a reliable source

The thread on mistakes highlights the forgetting on disconnecting shore power

That or he was looking at one model or spec on Amazon and a different one on apple.com. Apple generally exercise *very* tight control over their reseller pricing and the cost is the same everywhere.
