Looking to purchase a new iPad, but it very evasive about if it has GPS or not, as if its a big secret, doesn't anyone know which model has so I can order it please , thanks, and then would I download the maps from the App Store?

yes I know that it has to be cellular, but I cant find it on the description of the iPads, unless im not looking correctly , does anyone use an iPad for navigation, if so, can they let me know the model so I would know that it worked, thankyou

Yep, agree with Markc that's it's very straightforward. You just need to order the 'Wifi+Cellular' model option. A SIM card does not need to be used, or even inserted; Wifi+Cellular models also contain the GPS chip.
I sometimes use an iPad for navigation, using Navionics. I have an iPad Pro.
Wifi+Cellular can be ordered with any iPad in the range.

Great got it guys, just ordered one from Amazon, with wifi and cellular, it was cheaper than the apple store, and I don't have to wait till nov 6th for deliver!
You have probably bought a 'current spec' version, whereas apple would be shipping their updated version in November - hence the price difference.

As for mounting & cover - only you know what you need and if it's going to get wet. Obv they are not waterproof

That or he was looking at one model or spec on Amazon and a different one on apple.com. Apple generally exercise *very* tight control over their reseller pricing and the cost is the same everywhere.

If you don’t fancy running a power cord to supply you can also power by a handy small battery and you can be free for longer from the power cord if using sitting in the cockpit . Buy a cheap small chart plotter with blue tooth and pair the iPad to it and then the iPad has more chance of staying dry.

The modern IPAD has a higher current requirement than a phone therefore is fussy about supply especially when using cigar lighter sockets

You may also find that the waterproof case cover does not facilitate charging

I would recommend Boatie as an APP

"its got the usb adapters in the boat already "

You will need one capable of supplying enough current to charge the IPAD while in use.
They are only a pound or two more than the bog standard ones you probably already have on board .
