I need to get the water out of the starboard fuel tank......600 quid

If it's any help Doug I've got some jerry cans and if I can find it an electric pump here, but I would have thought that disconnecting the fuel line just before the filter and draining from that would be the fastest way to do it. though I bow to KevB and others knowledge on the subject.
Used to get a similar problem with the Birchy before I found where the water was getting in, and that's with a petrol engine.
If I can help at all just call and I'll fish out the kit, and if you want some spanners (hands) to help out you know where I am
If you've never done it before or worked with diseasel, get some of those surgical gloves and wear them. You'll probably spill some and if you get too much on your hands you're going to know it
Best of luck mate, and call if I can help

So Doug the 2 tanks are totally seperate with no cross linking.
that is bad .you should be able to run both engines from each tank.

Sounds good in theory, but what if the contaminated fuel stops both engines??

can i shove a pipe down the filler cap to drain the water off the fuel......

Unlikely to be the favoured passage in as the filler will be at the top ?
Between the filler and the lowest corner I would expect to find baffles which will prevent your hose getting to where it needs to be (the lowest point in the tank)

Can you see the fuel level gauge sender ? could be under the floor or locker via a hatch, or eberspacher take off ?
They can be placed to the rear of sports boats tanks, you can remove the 5/6 machine screws/bolts and use the 2 inch hole to poke your hose down.

If all else fails you can add a dedicated fuel pick up pipe, drill a hole in the top of your tank at the back corner, tap a thread, screw in a fuel pickup with a ridged pipe that reaches the bottom of your tank, then just cap it off while not in use ( taking 2-3 gallons of mucky diesel out of a tank every 2-3 years should be included in general maintenance anyway)

Doug, if you do get a response from Sealine on how to gain access to the tanks, then please let me know. I was having a look last month and couldn't see any obvious way in - given the 3 inches of headroom above the tanks!

Depends if the run of the filling pipe is straight in more or less through the top from deck. Worth a try.

I had to remove the floor / bed of the aft cabin in one boat, using a circular saw set to cut the depth of the fibreglass floor only , trying not to cut the tank at the same time !

To make an inspection hatch you cut out a 1 ft by 1 ft section out of your floor, then you can see the top of your tank.

screw some flanges under the new hole , hatch screws back down to the new flanges, filler and gaffer tape to seal until next time.

...there are shut off valves and cross overs before the pre filters so i can run both engines from one tank......

[/ QUOTE ]

So why can't you shut off both tanks, disconnect the offending tank after the shut-off valve and empty from there...

Failing that ... simple.... Shut-off good tank, and drain bad off pre-filter .... or am I missing something here..... apart from where to stuff 600L of diesel and some water??

The pre filters are the same height as the top of the tank, so need the engine running to draw fuel off....
I am not going to do that with D3 engines.

Seems i have found a man who can do the job for 250 quid, including getting rid of the bad fuel.

I looked at the access on Saturday and it is not an easy job for anyone to get to the only place to get a hose in....the sender unit....it would have been easier if i hadnt got teak on the floor of the cockpit. there are access holes but covered by the teak....and i am not going to try removing that....

Ok, so someone needs to connect a pump to this then and time take to circulate 600L, keep it, run through water seperator and return the cleaned diesel.... £250 sounds very reasonable (but are you giving him about £400 in diesel???) .... also what about residue in tank, how to address this and drying it out ... is that included in the cost (hot air circulation between filler and breather perhaps)??
