I know this has probably been done to death....

You don't fancy Royal Harwich then?

It's great, top atmosphere, clubhouse etc etc but a number of years wait for a pontoon.

No criticism of Shotley but is it really a time saver for going out to sea? I always find the drive slow from Woolverstone onwards, lots of slow traffic and the lock does add time, maybe only 20 minutes but you'd be half way from Woolverstone by then. What I like best about Foxs is it's 35 minutes from driveway to pontoon, so we go much more often. It's appreciably longer to Shotley and SYH.

:confused::confused:
It takes me 10 minutes to drive from Fox's to SYH
It's about 90 minutes from Fox's to Landguard - 30 odd from SYH.

If I could get a quote/ berth then I would be keen on SYH... But getting someone on the phone or committing to providing a berth is a problem..... At the end of the day if we are not going to renew our current ... I need a plan. SYH's nebulous well maybe we won't know until xxs... When you CAN get someone on the phone... Hmmm

Indeed they won't know what's available just yet - berthing renewals were only due in on the 17th (Monday just gone).

Always better to go in person IMO and talk to the man in charge of allotting berths (Chris Nunn). You could email him if you don't want to go in person but you'll probably get a standard reply: chris at syharbour dot co dot uk.

I know the others are nearer the sea, but I don't mind sailing on the river. And being half an hour away from the boat means I pop over more often.

That's fairly normal for any interaction with SYH. The driver I use to move the boat says that he charges extra for an SYH collection as they are so disorganised and disinterested in doing anything quickly.

At SYH the form for renewal is put in towards the end of November for the next season beginning 1st April.As people can be slow(I was this year I must admit,but they did phone me).Allowing for contacting people it probably isn't until the new year when they will know what is available.I have always found Bob who organises the boat haul outs/in most accommodating.

Yep, that's what I've always found with Bob (& Chris Nunn) - also the lift-out/cradle gang led by Jamie is excellent and hard-working so I'm always a bit surprised by the negative comments. Maybe I'm easy to please.

Well, I got Chris on the phone today! And he was very helpfull and offered me a berth right away! And confirmed the rate as well..

So we are going to go there instead of Woolverstone...

I was very pleased... No diddling around like woolverstone who couldn't confirm the rate...and put me on a waiting list...
