But I've just been reading the article in YM about the builder and his family of 7 who are thinking of buying a 37 - 40 ft boat for £55 - £60K as his first boat. What the hell happened to walking before you can run? I really think this is a complete nonsense and YM ought to show a bit more responsibility and do what they can from discouraging such brainless ventures. They did suggest he did a practical course but come on - lets get real here. Doubly Ironic when they send an RNLI horror comic out with this edition.

Absolutely disgracefull, its amazing what these cowboys get away with. Bet he has'nt paid tax or Vat for years. Really ought to buy an old fishing boat, build a shed on it,sink it in a welsh marina and then go off to Ararat

<hr width=100% size=1>.. when's that again, but ..

Especially since he wants to go to Sweden (or Denmark) on the boat to visit his Mum!

This series of articles are utter nonsense. From this months to a couple who dont have a budget.

Reading YM makes me feel inadequate.

Re: Inadequacy

Veery Interesting. Und how long have you had zis feeling of inadequacy.

For me its been ever since I got 15 E-Mails a day offering Viagra, Patches, Cream & several other methods to increase the size/efficiency of my obviously failing equipment.

None of You are taking this seriously

I suggest you start again and get a move on with your reconsidered responses. College closes today for a few weeks and I'll not be here after 15:00. The External Verifier will be wanting to look at your work so you'd better not leave things until January
Thank You.

Re: Hurrumph

I don't want to sound stuffy - but if it wasn't for the likes of me, grooming the likes of you to the highest pinnacles of educational prowess, the private sector would be a bit of an uneducated mess and so they'd have a job on keeping the wheels turning. I'm not asking for thanks - I do this selflessly with no thought for anything other than the wellbeing of fellow men and women. I must lie down now.

Pompous drivel

As our dear friend the Reverend Claymore has so clearly pointed out, this is an enormously serious problem and one can only hope that in the fullness of time steps are taken by the appropriate authorities to prevent the hoi-polloi spending their money willy-nilly (see references to Viagra below) on floating caravans for the amusement and education of their full-house of ankle-biters. In the meantime popular sailing organs should refrain from promoting the idea that sailing is an undemanding, pleasurable and relatively easy pastime and concentrate entirely of the potential of the sport for wreaking damage, mental upset, mayhem, rape, pillage, spilt gins and tonics, global warming... Re: Hurrumph

Well, thanks. I'm indebted to the educational establishment for my MBA. Now can I offer you some, only slightly expensive, consultancy in return? Now where's that bottle gone now?

I get the impression that many posters, if they took Viagra, would be 8' tall...

Re: Hurrumph

Now, how much do you think you'd be prepared to pay?

A consultant is someone who is brought in to solve a problem and stays around long enough to become part of it

First let me say I have not rtead the article as I have not bought a mag for some time now. I objected to price increases and reduced content. However, why is it irresponsible to start with a large boat? Provided that practical instruction is taken and he appreciates the added costs involved with owning a larger vessel I would have thought the family would be much safer in a 37-40 foot than in a small say 25-30 foot boat.

I trust I have met your requests for a serious reply and the 1500 deadline.

Happy Christmas
