I know a quiet anchorage

I spent the day at anchor in Villefranche on Thursday and I was surprised at how relatively quiet it was. Season a bit slow to start this year?
Sorry to miss you - I arrived Thursday!
Yup it is not full to capacity, though not quiet either - the first pic below is Lerins, day before y'day (sunday)

We had a bit of a crisis. Chef was on board but v under weather taking antibiotics. So for breakfast we did a Pigs-can-Fly appeal to neighbouring boat (A+K's squadron 58) knowing they had been to M+S in UK the day before, and they tied a packet of bacon onto the drone and we droned it back to our boat. QED

The meals situation continued at lunch but luckily Deliveroo works on boats :encouragement:

Tee-hee, awesome. I see that this year's crew uniform on Match appears to be ... blond hair! :D:D

And sorry I didn't get in touch, I assumed as it was a midweekish visit that you wouldn't be around. I went back to the UK on Friday morning. Back down in a couple of weeks time.

See you then. BTW the concept of drone bacon delivery between squadrons dates from Girolata 2017 - see 1:15 of this Corsica video. Amazon now trying to copy :D

We use that pizza catamaran regularly and often wonder why there arent similar operations in every popular anchorage in SoF because judging by the prices, the owner must be absolutely coining it;) Are they licensed and regulated?

A bit more than your average public swimming pool I reckon.
Once we were parked next to this yacht that was pumping so much effluent into the sea that you couldn’t eat or drink anything on the boat it was so disgusting. And that was in port:disgust:

We were once anchored in a very crowded bay in Ibiza and we were all swimming in the water around our boat when a guy on a French flagged yacht anchored very close to us appeared on his bathing platform stark bollock naked and urinated in the water barely feet from where our kids were swimming. I shouted at him but he just shrugged in that Gallic way and disappeared indoors again. Thats foreigners for you J. Wouldnt happen if you were anchored in some nice bay in Blighty;)

Other than registering and getting a siret number, as any trader in France must, I have no idea if they are regulated in the sense of needing permission to anchor and trade in that anchorage, but i suspect it is a free-for all. The pizzas were "home made" in the sense of rolling the bread and manually applying the topping, rather than being frozen supermarket pizzas and iirc €15 each, so €13 gross margin, and several hundred a day. He has a newer bigger catamaran this year :D. I think Lerins is the only anchorage with enough boats for this - can't see it being profitable in villefranche, say. Lerins has say 1000 boats on august weekend whereas villefranche has more like 100. Lerins also has no shoreside eating/cafes, apart from Tonnelle upmarket restaurant.

I thought the pizza cat had changed as the hulls are now red, and I swear they were another colour last year. When we were there in May the tenders were handing out the new menus and I noticed the fresh bread option was missing!

We will be back in Beaulieu-sur-Mer on Wednesday next week for three weeks - so who is about?

I'm in the wrong business then. I am told by a couple of friends in the restaurant business that pizzas generate the highest gross margins of any food type. Surprising he has no competition though, if he's doing the numbers you say

The SWMBO is in Antibes on the boat from tonight until Saturday in order to shout at builders. We will be out together the following weekend 29/30th hopefully for some boating R & R

As much as I would love pizza in every anchorage I’d much prefer Sea Start in SoF.
They have it on the Northern coast. That’s got to be a better business model, everyone pays yearly subscription but only a handful ever use the service

Sea Start works well in the UK. Indeed I was one of their very first members. To be honest I have no idea why somebody doesnt offer a similar service in SoF with so many boats crowded into a small area. Possible business opportunity for you J? I'm sure you'd love flying around the Cote d'Azur in a fast RIB delivering pizzas and charging batteries;)
