If this tsunami has given Bin Laden any ideas? eg plant a nuke in the fault in Madeira and watch the result wipe out the East American seaboard?

Oh Dear Jimi

You will be getting a visit from George W's Imperial Storm troopers!

Did anyone see the program a few weeks ago about the politics of fear?

The conclusion appeared to be that Al Quaida were just a few guys with some cash that bankroll small radical groups. It suggested that Al Quaida as some kind of James Bond super baddy organisation was a fabrication. For instance, there were artists impressions of their headquarters in Tora Bora which was definitely from James Bond. What they found were some little caves with campfires.

It was suggested that this international superbaddy organisation served Geo Ws purposes very well as he could appropriate all the funds he liked and have a go at anyone he didn't like.

They werent that sophisticated

Cameron

You haven't been using this forum for handling Bin Laden's coded messages all this time have you? If so you forgot to code this one.

It is ready to go....

The island of La Palma in the Canaries is about to split. There is a fault running N-S and angles to the E.
In short, when it splits a half a trillion tons of rock will slide down to the sea bed (the water is 3500 metres deep) and launch a tidal wave.
It is calculated that the wave will be 640 metres high as it goes through New York.

If you see a man with a towel on his head and a drilling rig on La Palma, sell your dollars.

Re: It is ready to go....

I was on La Palma last month. No towels on heads, no drilling rigs and no underground rumbles.......err, yet. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
The trouble is that if we go round looking over our shoulders all the time we will walk into walls, figuratively speaking. Natural disasters will happen. We can sometimes spot them coming but very rarely stop them so, enjoy today, tomorrow could be better. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Happy New Year,
Godfrey

Re: It is ready to go....

..... and about the 30 metres when it reaches the UK Coast. Checked up on the Solent Tsunami warning procedure lately?

There has been some criticism of the Asian authorities for not 'preparing' for this disaster - really clever. How could they warn us of an impending tidal wave on this scale - and what would the few of you left (I live and work at sea level so am unlikely to be around to help with clearing up) be able to do about it? And even if they could warn us - what on earth difference would it make? The motorways are jammed up already anyway, so you might just as well go out for a sail 'till it arrives and die happy!

Now what the heck or all those boats heading down the harbour for at this time of day...?

Best thing to do anyway! If you can get into deep water it'll be a lot lower, so you'd have a chance
