Re: I don\'t really need the advice

Sorry Claymore- if I'd read your post properly in the first place I'd know that.

Doh

<hr width=100% size=1>Just enjoy it.

<smug look on> I've never smoked <smug look off> but have three friends who have done so most of their teen and adult lives. All have successfully given up, after years of trying various substitutes one of them tried hypnosis and it worked. The other two have since had hypnosis and not touched a cigarette since. All were very heavy smokers, it has amazed me that mumbo jumbo witchcraft actually worked.

Give your mate permission to ring your mobile for a chat about boaty things every time he feels the temptation.

Suggest he has at least 2 or 3 peoples numbers depending on the degree of addiction.

I was finally successfull after a bout of flu which for some reason makes cigarrettes taste terrible.

One day I just stopped......

......really....more or less just like that. Had been a 50 to 60 a day man, well certainly got through 3 packets a day anyway.

Dunno what it was really. Had tried many times before for varying but always fairly short periods of time. But this time it was as if common sense finally kicked in that I was not doing myself any good.

I think two things helped me stick it out...
1 Marks and Spencer Butter Mintoes....seriously...they were on the go pretty well non stop for some time
2. Every week or two I would buy myself something really nice with the money I had 'saved' by not smoking so I had something tangible to handle and enjoy.

Ive been smoking free for so long now I cant even remember exactly when I stopped and thats when you know you've really got it beat. Certainly over 12 years now after over 30 years with a packet and lighter.

So tell you friend its not just the sails from the mrs..........

I\'m Depressed?

At reading all these posts about forumites that have successfully given up!

I've tried all ways, except hypnotism and failed badly,

One constant in my trying to give up is the wild dreams and mucked up exhaust pipe.

Now my YC is asking the AGM to bring in a total smoking ban in club buildings, which will of course be carried because the majority of members don't smoke. Never mind me coming ashore after 2 days of RYA Powerboat training reduced to a jibbering wreck and sitting in the bar with a fag and a pint of diesel (Guiness) to calm the nerves.

It has occurred to me that if all these smoking cures were to become instantly effective and the estimated 13 million of us British smokers gave up overnight.

What would Gordon do to collect the lost revenue?

Having said that, I wish I could stop, I obviously don't have the right will-power.

A great friend of mine found a certain way of giving it up. He was smoking (one of about 60 a day) while we talked about the theory of sailing to windward. Suddenly he said "Peter, I feel queer", stubbed his cigarette out, collapsed with a heart attack and died. He was 38.

Not a method I'd recommend, though.
