I hate to do this...but

Very bad news, a dodgy anchor

What an extraordinary thread.

If i had bought a Wonky Wokna, i'd be tempted to jam it under a jetty at low tide then motor off at high water, bet it would bend easily enough to march into the shop and say "Not fit for purpose''.

Having once caught a Luke ( collapsible storm anchor) under a rock in a strong current and been forced to motor round and apply , er, significant jarring force from different directions, I was horrified when it came up,seemingly intact but actually almost snapped in two across the stock- sort of malleable crappy grainy casting. This was before the days of digital pics so alas no horror photo for the thread.

The point I am trying to make is, in an uncertain world, why tolerate an uncertain 'anchor of last resort' ?

Blueboatman,

You make a valid point. Here we have a series of Rocna owners sitting at their computers and worrying whether their anchors might fail. Can you imagine the increased worry once the same owners leave the comfort of home are tucked up in their bunks, kids in the aft berths, the wind picks up with wind shift on the way. Seems a recipe for a ruined holiday to me.

Surely there is enough to think about without have to worry about your anchor bending.

Its a bit like driving a car down the M6 with bald tyres, kids in the back and then it starts to rain.

There's nowt so queer as folk.

Bent ploughs

Akela

Its difficult to tell - but that does not look like a genuine CQR to me, the flats of the top and bottom of the shank look a bit thin and the crown a different design to the genuine version, pity we do not have a side view.

I was wondering precisely the same thing just before I logged on, Ken. Perhaps it's a simple case of his metal not being as tough as previously claimed.

Mettle, surely.

noun
a person's ability to cope well with difficulties or to face a demanding situation in a spirited and resilient way : the team showed their true mettle in the second half.

Showing his mettle? Hmm... Steeling himself to iron things out? Acting brassy? Showing he's not easily led (Lead)? Giving a performance like Eleanor Bron's? (She was J Lumley's ma in Ab Fab)...now, how can I contrive 'titanium' into a sentence?

Would it help that titanium was called manaccanite when first discovered (in Cornwall). No, probably not...

Antarctic sojourns

The Smiths in Antractica, sounds romantic and heroic, just the sort of news flash to get a bit of sympathy going.

Its the middle of the Southern Hemsphere winter? - the Smiths down there, possible, but not sure that they would get the permits and if Peter is as good and experianced as they say, unlikely - but possible. wait till you see the pictures.

And if they are down there, I for one would acknowledge bravery, stamina and skill - even if nothing else,

In the meantime assume its part of the wriggle school of divsrionary tactics.
