For the last couple of days it's been dry with a S or SE wind F4. I'm going aboard tonight to go basically West and wots the weather gonna do! Rain and W to SW winds.

Gezzs I give up?

Disgruntled Boatman.

Just had a quick peep at Theyr, looks like easterlies (F4+) overnight then a bit of a hooley from the south west for the next two days. Dry after tomorrow morning on the south coast tho', IMO.
Good luck, it sounds just like our 2003 summer holiday: a quick "sleigh ride" then 3 days in Brighton watching the waves break over the breakwater!

Happened to me all Summer; got me thinking just how often, when passage making, do we get a fair slant that is also above 2 and below a 6. I reckon it's about 10% of the time. Yet for some reason we always remain hopeful.

It would be interesting to see some meaningful statistics for the weather for sailers. The normal x% of the time its above F6 is not that useful as it could mean that you get a F7+ every day for a few hours, (or every hour for a few minutes) or it could mean that you get, say 10-11 continuous months of glorious weather and 2 months continuous of howling gales. Obviously neither of these scenarios are true but can equally be applied to the normal wind charts which show how strong it blows from for what percentages of the time.
We'd need some measure of how often is it >F2 and <F6 for say 2 or 3 days at a time.

I'd also love to find out average hours for cloud/sun/rain etc in the UK and elsewhere. Sister in law lives in S France (sadly not near the water) and they had one day with a shower over the last fortnight while it rained almost incessantly here on Exmoor.

Anyone know where there figures for these - other than in the back of travel agents brochures ?
