Yes, it’s all very well getting all misty about the way things used to be, but think how much better things are now…

J K Rowling instead of Enid Blyton

Pokemon Crystal on GameBoy instead of that crap Mastermind game with the pegs

Nike Air trainers instead of Dunlop Green Flash

Offspring hoodies instead of duffle-coats

The Prodigy instead of The Beatles

Red Bull instead of Dandelion & Burdock

The Bill instead of Z-Cars

Rollerblades instead of strap-on rollerskates

Ghetto-blasters instead of Dancettes

21-speed mountain bikes instead of 3-speed Raleigh Choppers

Footie on the telly instead of Mick McManus wrestling

CDs instead of 45s

Holidays in the Med instead of holidays in Margate

Yardies instead of The Krays

Skateboards that steer instead of skateboards that don’t

Hard House instead of Glam Rock

Jedi knights instead of Robin Hood

Robert Pires instead of Nobby Stiles

Blue Smarties, Dorling Kindersly books, Chunky Kit-Kats, PS2s, Solero Shots, tubes of black and red Wine Gums, Toy Story…

Plus (and this is the really good bit) we still have all the great stuff from back then...Tin Tin, Ronson lighter fluid, Scooby-Doo, Pineapple Chunks, endless summers, Tom & Jerry, unemployment, cut grass, the Middle-East crisis, British Bulldog and Stingball, kiss-chase...

Re: water pistol issue

You forgot water pistols, much MUCH better these days. I have all the supersoakers cept the backpack 3000 which annoyingly needs to be unclipped before refill. How about an MBY review of these, and a nice graph with piccies of how very soaked an entire charge of water will make the target person from a) 5metres b) 10metres c) 20 metres.

also nobody buy prams anymore, so making hideously dangerous carties like dennis the m. is no longer possible. Not agreed that JKRowling much kop either. You're just jealous. Or I am, anyway.

Good point...SuperSoakers are just the biz (comprehensive test coming shortly). And agree about J K Rowling, but still better than Famous Five crapola.

Mallory Towers & St Clares...

Now they are school books worth reading <G>. Got short person a super soaker - the best water gun out, accept no substitute... We had to practice with a bucket of warm water the neighbours think I'm nuts.

Re: Bucket of water

aha short people are very easy targets. Gettem the 1500 or 2000 , and once loaded they can't pick them up! Also the old "bucket of water to fill it up" trick, very good. Get two buckets of water, and tip one of them over short person whilst he's filling from the first.

Re: Bucket of water

Super soaker. pah! At the Maidstone River festival most boats came tooled up after the lessons learnt from the year before.
Some no hopers had secreted a hidden stirrup pump but the real top guns came with a high pressure hose or two. The worst was the rat bags waiting on top of the road bridge with buckets of water.

Re: it\'s seized up!

unfortunately el monstro is seized. So, that's that. I have a nice engine which i may er try and use for something.

New boat has a massive hose with a bayonet attachement that looks quite decent. Wonder if that's any good? I will have to command R to investigate, soak the kids and if possible use it to pin them up against the wall. He won't dare turn it on me, hehe.
