For the first four years in my ownership my boats mast was never down and everything at the masthead including the navigation lights appeared to work.
Then it spent a season ashore and when I put it back in the water last year the navigation lights didnt work.
So this winter I rewired everything and today began wiring everything up BUT after fitting a deck gland to replace a deck plug it was time to wire up below decks so I picked up the cable that led to the 3 pin deck socket and found myself with a three foot length of cable with a connector attached but connected to nothing!
Someone had wired up a new masthead light to replace the origional pulpit tricolour but never wired it in!
The only reason things worked was because one of the other two deck sockets for steaming and deck floodlight was also three pin and the masthead light whether deliberately or accidentally had been plugged into this socket!
As all my cabling is concealed(bad idea) I will initially make use of the two live cables I do have transfering them from steaming and deck light switches to mast head switches which I do have.
This has taken a whole day of messing all be it in beautiful hot and sunny weather.
