I was hoping this was going to be an easy task but its turned out not so..

Has anyone had difficulty with ivss?

I thought from reading about all was good however we have been waiting for our returned drives for over 6 weeks now opposed to the 2 listed on the website.

I understand through email and phone calls they were in the process of moving bit was assured of set dates.

Since then my emails and phonecalls I believe are being ignored, I tested this theory by calling from another phone, picked up 1st time.

Now my last correspondence was our drives were finished and collected last Thursday. I would of expected delivery yesterday or even today at latest, nothing.

I cannot get hold of ivss. However I had numbers for the courier.
It appears they have nothing on the books... So I gather I have been lied to...

To finish off here, we have paid in full plus postage cost and after many times of asking for a reciept still nothing has materialsed

Its properly screwed over our schedules and caused great stress in our family.

Wayne has done good work for me in the past, so I'd suspect c@ck-up, rather than conspiracy.
It could well be that things are still in a state of chaos due to the move.

What did you actually have done, could you not have had the work done nearer to home?

I have a friend / forum member who had work done by them to a good standard.

Later I stripped another pair of drives from another forum member sunseeker that had been reconditioned by them to find they used non genuine seals on the shafts and gear change , they also used only single lip seals on the inner forward seal and gearshift seal which is the reason they were full of water. Not good in my view as it cold have totally destroyed the drives. This told me they either don't use genuine parts or they had an off day and used seals from an outside supplier.

There not the worst reconditioned drives I have seen but that's another story.

I would think and hope there factory move has something to do with your drives not being returned on time, I'd keep trying or ask a friend to call on your behalf.

We sent our old drives in for a set of refurbed drives. I was initially told a 14 day turn around, however he did advise of his move and I left him space.
After 3 weeks I had called him back and finally got hold of him to be told he would have them done by end of the week come rain or shine (this was leading into week 4)

I sent emails on the basis it was completed as per his own deadline and requested delivery details. final payment was also paid in full.

Since then the only contact ive had - none even to confirm receipt of cash- was to say the drives had been collected last Thursday when I called from an alternate number.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt yet it seems a little off that the courier company don't have anything on their books for it?

So now I don't know where I stand on this apart from we've paid up a lot of money, ive no paperwork to back this up and im a set of drives short, the best part of 6 weeks down the line.

On top of this off the original timeframes - we've paid best part of 2 months of a mooring in the hope to put the boat in so we can at least have a go on it (its a new boat to use and still not been in the water) but as time drags on - this is not going to be feasible.

if anyone could pop their head in i'd happily post a pint or 2 via the post to find out whats going on?
His address is: Unit C1 Sandwich Industrial Estate, Sandwich marina, CT13 9LY Sandwich, Kent

Ive also posted on his facebook page - although I expect nil response as with all forms of communication with him so far

What I never understand is what actually constitutes to a recondition drive when they ask you to send your units in, what they are doing is refurbishing your drives otherwise they would have stock which cannot work as there are that many different models with different ratios etc . How can they also give a price for something they cannot possibly know is wrong until they strip the drive .
I do many drives in a years work , what was actually the faults with them?
A drive overhaul can just consist if new seals and o rings an d measurement of shim tolerances which can be put right easily . Then there Re cases of slipping cone clutch, damaged scored shafts which are mostly beyond repair unless there metal sprayed and turned down .

Sound to me like they have either taken on more than they can repair , or they have not even fine the job. The last drive a customer of mine bought from that area was bodged up with white silicone sealant on all the joints where new o rings and gaskets should have been used.

Upon receiving the boat off the lorry 1 of the bellows was leaking a really bad colour of gloop so my dad decided to have it refurbed to avoid any potential issue
But rather than doing 1, decided to do both to keep them at the same condition.

They probly didn't need a complete rebuild but as mentioned rather new to the boat scene and he wants it right.

I think he requests the older units back first to get the right variant and check ratios etc... but it wouldn't surprise me to find some parts of the old unit used in the new 1 such as casing etc...

I wouldn't mind the delay as much if I knew what was actually going on, but to be told they were in transit when it appears they aren't is not on

I have used them two or three times a few years ago without problems.
However we did drop them off and after requesting a fix by date then phoned a couple of times so they did not "forget" their promised deadline.
Did have an issue when a seal failed but this was rectified without fuss by them

Hi symondo,

I had a similar issue (different company) with a mercruiser leg that I had reconditioned this summer. It took over 2 months to get the job sorted but was sped up by a letter sent recorded delivery outlining timescales as to when I wanted it completed by, ready for a courier to collect. Once the letter was sent I followed it up with a phone call and they seemed to spring into action remembering my name and calling back when they said they would etc...

Failing that, if you've paid by credit card and the payment is above £500 (which presumably it has been) citizens advice informed me at the time that your bank would be able to recover the funds paid on your behalf.

If I were in your shoes I would definitely want something in writing from them though.

I hope this helps and you are back in the water again very soon!

Depends what you call an outcome...

After a very kind forum member dropped in past for me last week, it seems some awkward questions followed, along with many missed calls, emails etc..

I finally managed some contact on Sunday, where they were very apologetic with the promise of delivery this week.

Now i'd normally be happy at this but after the last time seeing 'they had been sent' I'm mot sold until I have a courier reference.

I do however have paperwork to at least account for the money now.

As no contact today I'm assuming they are not in transit. Living where I do, next day delivery doesn't work so I can only assume it will be next week before I can see some stern drives again.

So I fiess its a bit of an outcome. But realistically I'm going to be 7 weeks down the line tomorrow and still no drives in our possession to fit

totally shocking service the company does not deserve to be in business totaly rubbish service

hope you get sorted glad you named and shamed them hopefully other forum members will think twice about using them

The impression I get is he is genuinely swamped in work.

As someone who runs their own business I know the pitfalls of turning work away even when technically your too busy to deal with it.

But in this instance, it seems to have gone largely wrong. I just hope the drives are as good as the reading I did before we booked them in

Well i spoke with the couriers again today as i was advised of a pick up on friday.

The courier has confirmed our pallet should be with us tomorrow :)
I just hope all is well and as it shold be, no transit damage (had issues on sending them down)

Then just have to hope both engines fire up as they should too....

This sort of issue appears to plague the marine industry in general.
Chum of mine contacted Both Fairline and Sunseeker regards info and a purchase of some not cheap replacement parts.
He is still waiting for the companies to ring him back, despite both promising to do so .

Update...

We now have a set of legs back in our possession awaiting fitting to the boat, with new bellows and 1 new prop due to damage caused in transit on the way down.

They look the part... just need to give them a spin!

I would link it but the photo is a touch large so just a clickable link :)
