Tried to. Loaded the car with gear and Mrs T L and set off up the A12 on a beautiful sunny morning. Just got past the A120 tun off and the traffic stopped. Took 30 minutes to get to the next turn off. Heard on the radio that there was an accident and all traffic was being diverted through Colchester. Thought I would take some back roads and cut throughs that I know but no chance. The whole place was gridlocked. Got back on the A12 and drove home. Only about 30 minutes so not too bad.
While in the queue a van drove into the back of me and made a small scratch on the bumper.
Funny how days don't work out as planned!

That'll be the usual police trick of feeling important closing roads and causing chaos then; and am I right that a Sunday gets overtime bonus, so they were playing their joker...

The first bit of good sunshine & everyone jumps in there cars for a day out, 2 mile queues heading into Clacton, they do this every year, sat it queues on the way in & and again on the way out , WHY?

Sorry to here of your "dink" but the accident combined with the Colchester 1/2 Marathon brought everything to standstill. We came through after the accident had been cleared & they were queueing for 3 miles to turn off at the Stanway junction.

Same over this way at Whitstable, for some unknown reason a magnet for visitors on a sunny day (apparently the beleaguered inhabitants refer to them as DFLs - Down From London) - long queues to get in, long queues to get out. All very strange.

Sure beats me why they do it. Luckily we go against the flow, heading out in the morning we see the glum faces queueing for hours to get in & then on the way back the same glum faces queueing to get home.

Also known as Romford Navy in this part of the world :D

We decided to go to Windermere up the A65 instead of going on the motorway.
They had closed a road in Bradford for a run. It took ages to get round the diversion.
Eventually got to the boat and we didn't get the forecast dry day so airing things out was abandoned.
The generator wouldn't start and then the string broke.
I brought the rudder home to repair, it's easier than pratting about sourcing 240V.

Having lived 30 years in London, 5 years in Manchester and the last 10 in Edinburgh I find that anywhere South of Carlisle has unacceptable congestion!!

In fact the traffic I sat in in Edinburgh was pretty bad this morning. Time to move further North. Not sure the wife is up for it though!!
