I can no longer access the forum - Goodbye

Well, the forum software must really hate me as I have problems logging in on I pad and laptop (windows7). Just managed to get on using the reply with quote shortcut, but that took a couple of goes. Ordinary login at the top of the page doesnt work at all for me, cookies cleared and everything. Perhaps the forum is being selective!!

ha ha that worked !!!!!, not that you should have to do that , would be a shame to see this forum go to the dissapointing tumbleweed style forums that exist just about everywhere else .

The login prob only started today with me .

windows 7

I never have any issues logging in on iPad4, iPhone5, Windows 7 (desktop), Windows Vista (laptop), Windows XP (laptop) - Sorry, yes I do actually use all those... Wonder if the problem is with the OP's service provider??

I have the same problem. Logging in has become a completely hit and miss operation. Sometimes it works, other times I have to flick across a few forums and suddenly I'm logged in, other times I have to 'pretend' to reply to a post and log in that way.
I'm hoping it will be resolved soon because it's a bit tedious if I want to respond to posts so I'm doing a lot of lurking.

See Natalie's post this morning (post 94) http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?346838-won-t-allow-login&p=4003510#post4003510

This is possibly the second time this months that I have managed to access the forum, every other time, i get the message "Welcome haydude" but then it is as if I wasn't logged in and I have no buttons to reply or start threads.

Now I am using a fresh Windows 7 install on a Virtual box with plain Internet Explorer, however my main box has Firefox (always latest release) on Linux.

I tried to remove the cookies as I have seen suggested, but it never works anyway. The Login button also gets a superimposed checkbox. Lately I was making also extensive use of the Android app because when I am not at my desk I use small portable devices like phone and tablet. But this one too no longer works. Since I cannot have a special virtual box or a computer+browser build just to access the forum, before I loose access again and until all the problems are fixed...

GOODBYE to EVERYONE. It has been a pleasure following your threads.

Haydude.
I have a similar problem and only got onto the site now after multiple attempts over a number of days. The successful attempt was by the same route as all the previous unsucessful attempts and nothing has changed with the hardware or software at my end. I just hope that someone can sort this out as it would be a shame to lose such a valuable source of information and opinion.
Fair winds to all including the system administrators!

HTML and the web look standard but they are not. It depends on the interpretation. It is the skill of the architect designing the site to make it compatible with ALL users not just SOME users. Because what will work with a configuration, like in your case, it might not work with a slightly different one. So it is not that MY configuration is wrong or YOUR that is good, they are both GOOD because otherwise one of us will be unable to access most of the sites on the web, but since we both are, then this site has been built in a way that WORKS FOR SOME BUT NOT for EVERYONE.

Not quite right! They ARE standard, but sadly browsers don't implement the standards correctly! Historically, Microsoft was the biggest offender... But all browsers have deviations from the standards, and CSS (which governs how thing like this forum look) is one of the least well implemented standards out there.

Also sadly, web designers don't always adhere to the standards as strictly as they should; because of the development history, all sorts of nasty things are allowed, though deprecated these days (unclosed tags and incorrect nesting, for example). I personally always develop in XHTML because it gives better control over the structure of the document, and enforces stricter validation of the code.

I am using laptop with XP and firefox, and Netbook Win 7 IE9, having problems with both, it looks like I am logged in, then it chucks me out like a used slapper. A few attempst later it finally lets me in.

Yes, I'm in, I can see the lounge !!!

I was going to say, I'm not. But since it is now letting me reply, that seems to have changed. I have been trying for most of the day, it keeps saying 'welcome', and then telling me I am not logged in and can do nothing.
As was said elsewhere, if you can't post, you can't let anyone know there are problems

The only way I get in is to reply to a post and then complete the login pop up....It works fine......

As a lurker who joined 3 years ago & has only posted 2 posts, I thought I'd try logging on to see what all the fuss is about. Logged on without any problems & have increased my posts to 3! using a clapped out Toshiba laptop (SP6100) with W7 & IE9. Seems to work OK for me;) Thanks to all contributors for your (sometimes) entertaining words of wisdom!

Three posts in three years, but have you ever started a thread? Go on, give it a go, it's quite satisfying to create a conversation.

If you post in the lounge you can take equal pleasure in starting an argument ;)

For 3 days unable to log in on my computer. Logged in on kids mac. now 3 attempts no log in until I tried reply with quote. now logged in and no idea why that worked

I have had to log in 3 times this morning. Yesterday I logged in 6 times. I get the welcome Tricia message, then when I try to look at a photo or reply to a thread I'm directed to a bulletin page which tells me I have to register or log in. It is annoying. I don't understand why it happens tho. Is it Firefox? Or just me?

Tricia, here's hoping this isn't a wasted effort and you're offline before reading this, but it's not you or Firefox. Look in the website feedback forum, it's a major issue they're trying to deal with and various alternative login methods are suggested
As said, hope you get this
Over

Still not sure why there's an issue with logging in. I logged in when the forum changed, never logged out and have no problem. Do people actually log out everytime they finish looking at the forum. If so, why?
