We had a wish list of things the boat had to have:
@ 40 feet - big enough for 6 for a day out, 4 for a long weekend, 2 for week plus
flybridge with stairs - no ladders
med spec aircon and passarelle
big fridge/freezer, fridge on flybridge
correctly maintained
good access to all the oily bits, gennies etc
not bothered about nav kit make
planing hull to cruise @ 20 knots
better than 1mpg
preferably shaft drive
budget @100K euros

most importantly the flybridge helm seat must be a bench seat for 2 - Robbie the Westie insists on sitting at the helm and if he sits on your lap it gets quite hot, and very scratchy if your are wearing shorts

what is it ????

Rodman or phantom 38

Paul was right - Rodman 38, 2004, one owner from new, 106 hours! very very very light use. kept in good order by local boat management company. It's like it just came out of the factory. KAMD 300, (yes I know valve adjustment etc - I can do that) that have not been bu@@ered up by some ham fisted idiot. Engine bay like an operating theatre. Had new batteries all round last year. Beds never used and I doubt the loos have seen more than the odd tinkle. Simrad nav kit too. Very sharp deep V at the bow tapers back to deepish v at the stern. For a 38 ft planing hull quite a large wetted area. Props in tunnels and an 8" deep keel that tapers off just as the shafts come out the bottom. So not a racing machine, gives a very flat smooth ride. 20 knots @ 3000 rpm, 25knots @ 3800. Jumps onto plane @ 16 kns and had no problem at all hitting max revs in 34 deg C sea water (Mar Menor - its been very hot, PS the Mar Menor has recovered amazingly well since last years algea bloom). I suspect it would be happy with a bigger pitch/larger diameter prop but I am happy Rodman have left room for improvement rather than prop it for the marketing dept.

Congratulations, sounds like you got everything on the list ! And good news about the Mar Menor.

Lovely boat - congratulations!
I agree with Nigel ----- this time .

Yup was out the other day and @ fuel pontoon Rodman 38 or 40 ?pulled up .
Wife commented -"lovely proportions "
Not often she comments.
I found the Kad 300 on a previous boat sweet spot 3200 ish .
I sanded and waxoiled the pulleys - to treat "black dust disease " -it worked .
Did consider if that failed -remove em -send away galvanise them .

Easy engine to look after .i did 700 trouble free hrs .

Serviced engines today and the pre filters were a bit buggy. not surprised boat has had very little use. Big bottle of grotomar 82 going in tomorrow when I stick some diesel in. That usually kills the little bu@@ers quickly.

We are moving her tomorrow. mhph of this parish are coming along as crew. Mick's driving once we clear the canal and withies coming out of TM (he doesn't know that yet) and I will have my head stuck in the engine bay anticipating disaster. We are only going from Thomas Maestre to Torrevieja so fingers crossed 45 mins should do it. life-raft and spare everything aboard. Weather/sea has been perfect today so should be OK in the morning.
