In the shaft line part of the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 32.2 manual it states check and replace if necessary the Hydrolube oil ring. What is this? Is it part of the shaft seal?

I was intrigued by this but could not find any reference except this one on a Spanish advert for a Gin Fizz :

Propeller shaft & Bladed propeller, year 2000 marks FRANCE PROP, equipped with a rope cutter Shaft stainless steel 3 mm in 2000. Note: This tree is guided by a ring and a bearing hydrolube classic double rows beads attached to the hull reinforcement, it is independent of the inverter. Elastic transmission between the output of the inverter and the propeller shaft with double seal

This also didn't give much of a clue, but I found it here. It took a long time to download this parts list but you will find that a hydrolube ring is.......

a cutless bearing!

VYV Cox thanks, that is a super website for Jeaneau Owners I wonder how many know about it. You must have done lots of research.

Another question for you, I am told the Hydrolube needs replacing every 18 months on a Jeanneau 32.2. Seems rather frequent, could I change it for another type that would last longer?

I can't advise specifically for Jeanneau but cutless bearings come in a range of sizes, so it's a matter of measuring what you have and finding an alternative. You need to specify shaft size, bore of the P-bracket and length of the bearing. Most chandlers sell the bearings, as do many on-line suppliers.
