Mu hydraulic steering is suppose to be pressurisized to 30 psi.The system uses a Hynautic resevoir, pump and ram. The pressure guage was faulty so I replaced it. I ussed PTFE tape to seal the threads. I pumped up the pressure to 30 psi. half an hour later the pressure had gone.
Any ideas where to look for the leak? I can find no obvious fluid leaks.
Anybody had similar experiences?

Don't know about hydro steering but I have a hydraulic drive system which runs at 200-240psi. I was told that all joints should be made without the use of ptfe or such like.

Cheers

An easy way of keeping a permanent check on your joints in case they leak is to wrap a piece of paper tissue loosely around each and held with masking tape. Any leak will be visually apparent as the oil soaks into the tissue.

Out of interest, & since the hydraulic steering systems I've seen have been un-pressurised.....what's the advantage in pressurising the system & is it uncommon?

Thanks
