Hurth Gearbox Oil level. query

The required oil level is indicated by a marked dip stick attached to the filler plug.
Question.
Do the level marks relate to the plug resting on the casing, or when screwed in?
Does anyone know for certain?

Just to confirm the above, from another Hurth manual:
When checking the oil level, DIPSTICK TO BE INSERTED ONLY - DO NOT SCREW IN. Tighten the dipstick after adding oil or checking the oil level.

I think by the time you'd screwed it out again, the ATF fluid would have run down and made the reading completely useless - at least on my titchy old Hurth (35?). It's bad enough seeing the level of clean fluid - but that may be in part because I've the eyesight of a grandad too!

Oh Sugar! I have been using the dipstick screwed right in to check the oil. Looked at my manual and there is no actual text to say how the level is measured but there is a drawing of the dipstick and it shows it resting on the case. Started using this box about 7 years ago so damage will be done I suppose. Nuther nail in the "give it up" sailing list.

Even reading the level "screwed in" If up to the full mark it will probably not be below the minimum if read correctly.
