How do you light them ?do you have to use meths to heat the mantle ?
Mine's got a circular cup round the vaporiser tube. Fill tank with paraffin. make sure valve is closed, pump brass handle a few times. Little squeezy bottle of meths, squirt some in bowl and light it. When it's virtually gone just open valve a little. Paraffin vapour under pressure goes up the tube and away you go. Gets very hot though and I usually have the main hatch open a little for ventilation. That's the basic drill.
my dad used to use one Notice they were 60 w will get one as another option because they use paraffin and not quite as hot as the coleman (see above the one thing with cole4man is tho only needs a match to light you don't have to heat the mantle

There's a place down in West Sussex that do lamps and spares for Vapalux, Tilley lamps etc: going back to the year dot. I can't do links or whatever, but it's called.. Base Camp. Might be worth a look if you can't find a lamp up your way Fergie.

All Vapalux parts are available from the factory. Somebody gave the link above, but you can just Google "Vapalux" and that'll get you straight there. The lanterns are very solidly made and pretty well soldier-proof (except there is no way of preventing a soldier putting petrol in a paraffin lamp if he wants to). Any Vapalux or Bialladin lantern, however old, can be refurbished with Vapalux spares. They are dead easy to light as long as you have a bottle of meths with a thin spout, the lighting cup has its wick in it, you can provide shelter from the wind while it is warming up, and you can wait 3 minutes for the meths to heat the vapourizer. If you can't wait 3 minutes you might get a ball of yellow flames, but that goes out as soon as you release the pressure valve. Lighting instructions are provided on the Vapalux web site.
