Please spare a thought (or a prayer) for all of us about to get slammed by hurricane Frances. Nassau is shutting down as I write. Marinas are full and boats are being hauled, sails etc removed and lines doubled and tripled. The centre of the hurricane is forecat to pass about 50 to 75 miles east with hurricane force winds out to 80 miles. Currently it's a category 4 with sustained winds of 140 mph. Time to batten down the hatches (literally!) and pour another drink.

Hopefully we'll escape the worst.

Thanks in advance for your best wishes (which I know will be forthcoming).
Neil

Fingers crossed for you Neil.

We're chartering from The Moorings in the BVI October and apparently what they do in the event of a hurricane is take the mast down, take the boat into the mangroves and tie it to lots of trees.

If you've done what you can then better make that drink a stiff one.

Good luck,

Nick

Assume thats Tortolla? Last time I was there ( 1984 ) Tropical storm Klaus had just gone through,, half the boats were on the wrong side of the coast road and Beef Island a/port had more aircraft upside cown than the rightway up.. We were the last aircraft to land. ( Twin Otter).. Great sailing! Regds Nick

Thinking of you Neil, current run suggest a run up the east coasts and then landfall further north. I've been talking about it all week on BBC regional TV prog "Midlands Today", so we are thinking of you over here.

Best of luck,
Simon

Re: Hurricane Rating System

I've just heard on the news that it's been downgraded from a hurricane to a tripical storm. Which is all well and good - but why on earth didn't they do this last week, before it caused so much damage?
