First boat I ever sailed on was a Hurley 22. The year was 1978 and I still have the most vivid memories of that fantastic boat. I was 8 years old at the time and LOA given my meagre dimension probably equate to a yacht of 50 ft+. But it was the best sailing I've ever experienced. This does nothing to answer your question but has given me some lovely memories.

If anybody else has a Hurley memory I'd be keen to hear about it..

Here is the text of a piece I wrote for YM (March 2002)

Folk Dancer
A stretched Folkboat below the wateerline, above, the distinctive break in the sheerline, flush foredeck and extended transom, are all her own. With over 50 per cent ballast and a conservative rig she is extremely stiff. She was regarded, in her day, as a proper, sea-going yacht, with the emphasis on good performance and handling rather than accommodation. However, the four/five berth layout allowed reasonably comfortable living. The Hurley Marine hulls were sound but the Russell Marine fit out was plain.
LOA 27ft (8.22m), LWL 19ft 3in (2.50m), beam 7ft 6in (2.29m), draught 4ft (1.22m), displacement 5,040 lb (2,290kg). Price guide: £5,000 to £10,000. YM report November 1967.

I hope this is of some help. If your boat is tatty, stick to th elower end of the price range.
