Hunter Horizon 26

Hi Patrick Have you had any issues with the engine? how do you get at the stern gear through the port cockpit locker??

No, touch wood, the engine has been fine so far. It's a 1GM10, and I have not had to do much more than routine annual maintenance.

I changed the exhaust elbow for one of the stainless steel ones from the USA, as many other people have. I had a drip from the water pump, so had to strip that down and replace the seals; the drips had also rusted the oil pipe so I had to replace that as well - again, these are both pretty much standard for the 1GM10 and nothing particularly difficult for DIY.

The stern gear is accessed from the quarter berth, which is nominally (ahem!) a double berth and extends under the cockpit sole. Lifting the cushions and hatches gives pretty good access to the back of the engine, gearbox, shaft and stuffing box.

To reiterate / contradict some comments above, solid boat; rudder post tube does not interfere with rear berth; Houdini hatch is a disaster which I replaced with a Lewmar which stopped the sea coming in; windows were leak proofed long term with Scapa closed cell tape; no self tacking jib on my boat; 1gm was solid but really boat needs a 14hp in any head wind/ sea. Dries out stern down which makes sleeping uncomfortable. I'd buy another.

What exactly is the Chiller?? is it electric and if not just how does it work and does it keep food really cool like meat for days.
I plan coastal passages so is the chiller as good as a small standard fridge??

I suspect it will vary widely from boat to boat. On mine it is a simple cool box, and not very well insulated at that, but I imagine that others might have had better insulation and/or refrigeration added by now.
