What a lot of nice people at Grimsby. Just moved up for the summer to explore further north, and what a welcome I got. Looking forward to the delights of Yorkshire over the next couple of trips.
Good train service, and the berth master took me to the station FOC
Coupled with beer at £1.60 a pint in their club house, what's not to like?

Fantastic crowd in the yacht club, really friendly. Second that point wholeheartedly.:encouragement:
But what a dump the harbour & surrounding area is. Whoever put the grim in Grimsby knew what they were doing. I had to walk miles to the shops & saw 3 sets of people arguing. One bloke threw his partners shopping in the road. Another pair were screaming at each other & just over a concrete railway bridge ( the type you get in old 60's Dixon of Dock Green films) 3 blokes were squaring up for a fight.
In the shopping area some of the shops were open but had boarded up windows.
The whole place was the most depressing I visited in on my round UK trip. Weeds growing out of the roads, buildings derelict, lorry parks with rubbish blowing about, druggies. Collapsed quays. The lock is OK on free flow but a nightmare if you go in at low tide because any line you have go vertical & the boat swings on a pendulum. Do not call on VHF to get access to the lock when the windfarm boats are returning you have to wait ages.It is pot luck if the lock keeper will answer yet he will always talk to the commercials. ..You name it they have it.

It might not be the most prestige marina but they are very friendly and helpful.

Cheap moorings, cheap fuel and cheap beer in the club house. What more can you need?
