Humber Mud

Sorry mate didn't mean to put you off, I live on the Humber and sail most weekends. You simply must sail on the Humber just treat it the same as all muddy estuaries and enjoy

having listened carefully to the advice I have received on these boards I would like to say that I have decided that sailing is entirely too dangerous and difficult for an under-resourced sailor like me

I now realise that I have been lucky to have got this far in such a small boat when any fule kno that you have to be well equipped with good lights, chartplotters and radar before taking to the sea.

The slug is staying in Wells until I have get my courage back while I save up for either a bigger boat or a trailer and landrover with which to finish the journey

Naaa

Really!!!!!

although having missed the Tuesday tide and weather window for getting to Boston I am fighting shorter days and worse weather for the right window to make the trip

I did buy a license for the Witham and booked the lock

I am only allowed to buy one license per year

so it looks really unlikely that I will be able to get up to the Humber before March now

which is a shame

The slug is currently on the pontoons at Wells but will be moved to a mooring up Sluice Creek on Sunday

dunno

How expensive to hire a trailer or flat deck truck to get from Wells to Boston?

although I have doen the trip there and back twice - to put the boat on a trailer would feel like cheating

one of the reasons I like sailing is that not everything is entirely under your own control

They have a saying "wells will only let you go when it is good and ready"

and I can think of worse places to overwinter the boat
