Having just completed the sale on my 1985 Sadler 26, job one has been to fit a log impeller... no big problem I thought!

I've cut the hole to the right size in the right place (the flat section at the front where the hull is single skinned), but the log fitting supplied with the Nasa Clipper is too short (or the hull is too thick)... is it possible to get a longer log, or do I have to work out another way of doing this?

As it is now, when the skin fitting is fitted there is not enough thread left at the top to secure the blanking plug safely once the locking collar has been tightened (there's about 6mm of thread free).

Any ideas folks?

Just re-bate the hole a bit - make the hull thinner from the inside just enough for the nut to fit, you could make the nut thinner too.

No No. If the thread isnt quite long enough for to get the retaining nut on, and have enough tread left sticking up for the cap-nut that retains the log, (or for the blanking cap) then you could thin the retaining nut a bit. I assume NASA is the same setup as all other logs I'v ever seen.

Hi Barnicle!

Yes, I see what you mean now! Mind you, seeing how 'delicate' these transducer housings seem to be these days, I'm not sure that reducing the retaining nut strength is a very good idea. Wonder if the cap nut could be reduced a bit? First time I've heard of this problem - there's usually plenty of thread projecting into the boat.

Cheers Jerry
