Hull 2017 City of Culture

Nice images.

You will have some decent land based entertainment this year on weekends when the weather is inclement.

Personally all the culture I would need is a wander to the Minerva and then pop around the corner to Cerutti's for a Fish Lunch :encouragement:

Good pictures - its a good little marina except (without being negative) the majority of boats moored there are rarely used as in going out into the Humber and North sea - which doesn't surprise me as the river is brown and not appealing
Boating activities are very far and few between apart from the odd power boat race once in a blue moon
The really one good thing that does come to mind is the CAT Zero yacht which helps kids.

It could have huge potential but as the marina has been established for many years and nothing much has changed then I don't think it will from a boating activity point of view.

Thanks for replies. Plenty more places apart from Minerva now. Improved a lot in last couple of years. I guess that some boats don't get out the marina much J&M same as all marinas. Personally we got to Belgium and South coast last year and Newcastle to the North. This year it's the Rhine or Caledonian canal but not sure which yet. Another boat on our pontoon did a UK anti-clockwise trip last year, which sounded good. Hopefully the City of Culture will be a success for Hull, from the literature it's looking positive.

I hope so too. I go to Hull several times a year, I have family near there. I spent a year at Hull Marine and Technical College and I've always liked the town and the people. Shame so many of the fine old pubs have closed though.

By the way, I never see much sailing going on upriver from the Humber Bridge but there are many interesting places that could be reached in a shallow-draft yacht such as the Humber Yawl. Is that type of sailing not popular any more?

It still seems popular parsifal Always plenty about around the Whittons in summer when we head up to the Trent and Ouse. I am a yellow belly but find Hull a great place with friendly people. Also did all my tickets at George st college, now changed to Trinity House. Many a pint in the Minerva waiting for the ferry home.

We really like Hull. Didn't manage to get down there last year due to other commitments but we are hoping to get down this year. Perhaps Easter for the first run down.
